South America - Day 14- Buenos Aires-"The City of the Dead"

Up and at 'em to go get our money, and we managed without incident. From there, we walked over to the beautiful National Congress building.

From there, it was a fairly.quick walk over to El Ateneo Grand Splendid, which is a nice bookstore in an old theater. The shelves go around each of the floors of balconies and there is actually a café in the stage. We took a quick hot chocolate break then perused the selection, before confirming that they didn't have a tote bag or a tee shirt to continue my bookstore pillow project. Too bad but a neat stop nevertheless.

On our walk down to the famous cemetery in Recoletta, we stopped by a really interesting building that actually contained a water and sanitation museum (needless to say, not as interesting).

Continuing on, we arrived at the cemetery which is a small city in its own right. Its hard to describe the scope except to say that you could easily wander through it for the better part of the day. We did some exploring but we basically followed their recommended path through this incredible necropolis. The differences in mausoleums and their architecture was fascinating and we had honestly never seen anything like this before. Evita is buried there so we passed her grave as well as several presidents and other important Argentine figures.

We grabbed lunch at the Design Center around the corner with plans to go to the Bella Artes Museum across the street after lunch. Unfortunately the museum was closed, but we had a bit of a walk back so we decided to start hiking and stop to get our Uruguay boat tickets at the same time. Not the most exciting walk back, but we did see the train station and the clock tower across from it before we made it to the port, where we were told that we had to go back toward the center of town to get tickets. Fast forward and we got our tickets and went back to the hotel; pretty tired since we ended up walking 8+ miles today, so lowkey tonight and then another country tomorrow!
